Check out the posts below for updates and reflections from my Kairos Gap Year in San José, Costa Rica.

About

This year I am living in San José, Costa Rica as a part of the GAP program run by an international youth organization called Kairos.  I will be serving the Árbol de Vida Christian community, mostly working as a staff member for the high school youth group and the college outreach group that it sponsors.  I will also be participating in daily prayer times with the other "gappers" and receiving education and training that will help me to grow as a follower of Jesus.

This opportunity came to me through my involvement in a student organization called University Christian Outreach that I was a part of during my time at the University of Michigan.  It is sponsored by a local adult Christian community called Word of Life, which is a member of an international organization of communities called Sword of the Spirit.  Árbol de Vida is also a member of this organization, as well as many other Christian communities worldwide.  Kairos is the youth division of Sword of the Spirit, and their GAP program allows students to spend a year serving in a different Sword of the Spirit community than the one that they are already a part of.  Several of these communities, including Word of Life and Árbol de Vida, are ecumenical, which means that they are not associated with one particular church but are made up of people from many different church traditions.

I hope and expect that God will help me to grow spiritually as well as bless other people through my service.  I have given this year to Him, and I know that He will honor that decision by making it fruitful.  During my time in Costa Rica, I want to seek the Lord and share His love with others so that we all can grow in holiness and character and in the love and knowledge of Him.
